Collections Technician
Location: Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum, Vernon ON.
Wage: $11/hr, 7.5 hrs/day
Start Date: May 28th, 2013
End Date: August 31, 2013

The Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum is seeking an organized and energetic individual for a 14 week summer work term. The successful candidate will be responsible for cataloguing and photo-documenting the museum collection, as well as participating in a future collections planning project, and other tasks as necessary.

The ideal candidate:
-is a returning student in a museum studies, or other related course
-is computer literate
-has prior experience in a museum environment or an interest in working in a museum
-has good organizational skills and the ability to work independently
-has good oral and interpersonal skills

Heritage Garden Interpreter
Location: Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum
Wage: $11/hr,7.5 hrs/day
Start Date: May 28th, 2013
End Date: August 31, 2013

The Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum is seeking an organized and energetic individual for a 14 week summer work term. The successful candidate will assist in creating a heritage garden on the museum grounds as well as providing interpretation for the site and displays, and other tasks as necessary.
The Heritage Garden Interpreter must be an effective, enthusiastic communicator who enjoys listening to and talking with people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Flexibility, good judgment, and the ability to work independently as well as within groups are additional skills for the successful candidate. The Interpreter will be asked to take initiative and work with other garden volunteers and staff to provide excellent visitor experiences. They must be flexible and creative problem-solvers. A background in teaching, storytelling, acting/performance, and/or public speaking is beneficial, as is an interest in gardening and landscape history.
Successful candidates will have prior garden experience in addition to excellent oral and written communication skills, and will be a dedicated and hardworking team player.
First Aid certification is an asset. This position requires your commitment for the duration of the season.

Interpretation Assistant

Location: Osgoode Township Historical Society and Museum
Wage: $11/hr, 30 hrs per week
Start Date: June 4, 2013
End Date: August 31, 2013

 

The Osgoode Township Museum seeks an Interpretation Assistant to work with the Educational Officer to deliver educational programming to groups of all ages that visit the museum.  Museum tours, special event organization, and demonstration of hands on historical activities and crafts are required.  Training is provided.

For each of the above positions the successful candidate must: 
-be legally entitled to work in Canada 
-be between the ages of 16 and 30 at the start of employment 
-be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment 
-not have another full-time job (over 30 hours per week) while employed with YCW 
-have been as full time student in the semester preceding the YCW job 
-be intending to return to full-time studies in the semester following the work term 
-register online through YCW before the application deadline: May 17th, 2013, 5:00pm 
-be able to provide his/ her own transportation as there is no public transportation to the work site.
